Irrigation PS Ephantus Kimotho has been at the forefront of driving sustainable agricultural practices and bolstering the resilience of small-holder farmers in the face of climate change in Kenya.

On Monday, 20th May, 2024, PS Kimotho engaged with farmers who have reaped the benefits of the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) and this has illuminated the profound impact of these initiatives.

In collaboration with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and ICRAF, PS Ephantus Kimotho has initiated the development of an irrigation master plan and the advancement of agroforestry in irrigated farms.

The results are expected to be remarkable, with farmers embracing resilient plant species that will substantially increase their incomes and generate employment opportunities.

The formation of cooperatives among farmers has further empowered their ability to access vital support, including assistance from agricultural produce aggregators and marketers.

PS Ephantus Kimotho has underscored that these endeavors are strategically designed to leverage carbon credits, not only enhancing the farmers' financial prospects but also contributing to Kenya's pursuit of its National Determined Contribution targets.

As PS Ephantus Kimotho continues to drive these impactful initiatives, he is poised to expand collaboration between CIFOR and ICRAF, uniting with key development partners to bolster the government's ambitious objective of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.

The majority of these trees will find root in arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL) through agroforestry, underlining a commitment to sustainable environmental practices.

PS Ephantus Kimotho's unwavering dedication to empowering farmers and advancing sustainable agricultural practices is not only commendable but also pivotal in steering Kenya toward a more resilient and environmentally conscious future.

His forward-looking leadership serves as an inspiring testament to the potential for positive change and progress in the realm of sustainable agriculture and climate resilience.
