In the verdant expanses of Gatundu South, Kiambu County, a transformative project has taken root, symbolizing hope and prosperity for thousands. The Rwabura Irrigation Development Project stands as a beacon of success in Kenya's agricultural sector.

From the moment of his appointment as Irrigation Principal Secretary, PS Ephantus Kimotho was a man on a mission. He wasted no time in orchestrating the final touches that would see the Rwabura Irrigation Development Project not just cross the finish line but do so with flying colors.

His hands-on approach, characterized by regular stakeholder consultations and meticulous inspection visits, ensured that every aspect of the project was fine-tuned to perfection.

Spanning 1,500 acres, the project is a lifeline for 3,000 members, in line with the the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). It champions food security, job creation, and livelihood enhancement through the cultivation of horticultural and cash crops, notably tea and coffee.

PS Kimotho's vision was clear: to turn the tide of agriculture from subsistence to abundance.

The numbers speak volumes of the project's impact: an astounding Ksh 600,000 million funneled into the local economy annually, uplifting over 22,500 individuals. The Rwabura Irrigation Development Project is not just an infrastructure feat; it's a catalyst for continuous farming of high-value crops, ensuring a steady income stream for the community.

The project's inauguration by President William Ruto on February 16, 2024, marked a new dawn for the region. PS Kimotho, in his remarks, underscored the multifaceted benefits of the project: food security, job creation, a reduction in food product imports, and a boost in foreign exchange through exports.

The Rwabura Irrigation Development Project has been embraced with open arms by all stakeholders. Farmers and local leaders alike have pledged to amplify their investments, ensuring that the full potential of this monumental project is realized.
