PS Ephantus Kimotho Unveils Ambitious Irrigation Plan for Kenya's Prosperity

In a momentous event on Monday at the Bomas of Kenya, Principal Secretary Ephantus Kimotho, CBS, of the State Department for Irrigation, took center stage to launch the National Irrigation Authority's Strategic Plan for 2023-2027.

The plan, a comprehensive roadmap, aims to revolutionize irrigation practices in Kenya, fostering sustainable development and food security.

The strategic plan sets its sights on transforming Kenya into a food-secure and prosperous nation. By harnessing sustainable irrigation practices, it seeks to uplift communities and drive economic growth.

The plan draws inspiration from various policy documents, including the Kenya Vision 2030 (KV2030), the Fourth Medium-Term Plan (MTP IV), and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

It aligns seamlessly with international frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the African Union Agenda 2063, and the East African Community Vision 2050.

The plan outlines five key result areas: sustainable irrigation management, irrigation research and innovation, sustainable irrigation development, sustainable water for irrigation, and governance and service delivery.

PS Kimotho emphasized the need to collaborate with the private sector, as leveraging public-private partnerships (PPPs) will unlock the full potential of irrigation projects across the country.

Ongoing efforts include Selu Ltd's involvement in maize production at the Galana Kulalu Food Security Project, and negotiations underway to engage the private sector in implementing key dams, including Galana Dam, Radat Dam, Lowaat Dam, and Isiolo Dam.

As Kenya strides toward a water and food secure future, PS Ephantus Kimotho's leadership promises a brighter, irrigated horizon for all.
