Proposal to Fund the Pilot Phase of #SaveOurSistersKE
Introduction
Femicide is a serious and pervasive issue in Kenya, with many women being brutally murdered every year. This tragic act often goes unnoticed, cloaked in cultural norms, silence within society, and systemic failure. The #SaveOurSistersKE campaign is an audacious intervention set out to alter this reality, leveraging social media as its main platform for education, mobilization, and advocacy against femicide.
Through engaging content, survivor stories, and roundtable discussions, the campaign hopes to raise awareness among the public, lift the voices of survivors, and shape policies that concern femicide. This proposal summarizes the five-month pilot phase of the initiative, which primarily uses the X platform to spur meaningful conversations and effect social change.
Organization Overview
#SaveOurSistersKE is a grassroots advocacy campaign that seeks to address femicide and all other related issues of GBV in Kenya. This initiative aims at creating safe spaces for survivors, bringing credible information to the public, and holding institutions accountable in keeping women and girls safe.
At its core, #SaveOurSistersKE is a digital-first campaign whose strong use of social media aims to engage an expansive audience. Impactful storytelling and evidence-based advocacy are the pillars the campaign uses to try to alter harmful social norms and build communities of people who demand change. This pilot phase will provide the foundation needed to scale up community outreach, documentaries, and advocacy forums in the future.
Objectives of the Pilot Phase
The #SaveOurSistersKE campaign is anchored on three major objectives, namely:
Creation of Awareness: To the public, the prevalence and consequences of femicide will be addressed through engaging and impactful social media content.
Survivor Engagement: Sharing authentic survivor narratives, thus humanizing the issue and inspiring empathy-driven action.
Advocacy: Gathering data and insights that will be useful in influencing policy reforms to ensure stronger protection for women and address systemic failings.
Implementation Strategy
The campaign will last for five months, and the following activities will be focused on:
Social Media Campaigns: Running regular posts on X, with infographics, survivor stories, and calls to action to end femicide. These posts are geared toward educating audiences and raising public discourse.
Promoted Tweets: Certain posts should be promoted to reach an audience that is much larger to ensure the message reaches as many demographic groups as possible.
Twitter Spaces Discussions: Regular bi-weekly sessions with survivors, advocates, and experts will encourage more in-depth engagement and a platform for dialogue.
Content Creation: Produce high-quality videos, infographics, and testimonial stories that could better reach and engage audiences.
Monitoring and Reporting: The reach and impact of the campaign will be tracked by analytics tools, with shared weekly reports to ensure accountability.
Budget Breakdown
The five-month pilot phase requires a total of KES 200,000. The funds will be allocated as follows:
Content creation, including design, Branding and video production, will cost approximately KES 75,000.
Promoted tweets to boost awareness will require KES 50,000.
Hosting bi-weekly Twitter Spaces discussions will cost KES 20,000.
Monitoring tools for tracking reach and impact will need KES 15,000.
Administrative and logistical costs, including research and coordination, will total KES 40,000.
Expected Outcomes
By the end of the pilot phase, the #SaveOurSistersKE campaign shall have achieved the following:
High public awareness measured by a reach of over 1 million impressions on X.
Amplification of survivor voices: At least 15 authentic stories shared during the campaign.
A repository of data and insights that can be used for policy advocacy and future initiatives.
Transparency and Accountability
To ensure that all donations are used responsibly, donors will receive a weekly report. These updates will contain a breakdown of expenditures, metrics on the performance of the campaign, and highlights of key milestones. Regular communication will keep donors informed and engaged throughout the project.
