The outstanding Legacy of CPA Ephantus Kimotho in Kenyan Public Service

“Public service is a public trust. We must hold ourselves to the highest standards in order to earn that trust.” – Barack Obama

In the world of public service, few embody the spirit of dedication and integrity like CPA Ephantus Kimotho, the current Principal Secretary for Irrigation. His remarkable journey is not just one of individual achievement but rather a testament to what visionary leadership can accomplish for an entire nation.

A Legacy of Excellence: The Presidential Award

In December 2023, Ephantus Kimotho received one of the highest honors in the nation when he was awarded the Presidential Award of CBS by President William Ruto.

This accolade was in recognition of his unwavering commitment to serving the people of Kenya, particularly through his role in the State Department of Irrigation. The award symbolizes the respect earned by Kimotho—the respect of a leader who has demonstrated that when we invest in our communities, we not only enhance individual lives but also build a stronger society for all.

Transformative Leadership: Galana Kulalu Project

November 2024 was another landmark month for Mr. Kimotho, as he was voted Position 8 in a poll by Politrack Africa as the most transformative Principal Secretary.

This recognition was not coincidental; it came as a direct result of his tireless efforts in spearheading the establishment of the Galana Kulalu project—a crucial Food Security initiative achieved through innovative Public-Private Partnerships. This project exemplifies how visionary leadership and collaborative efforts can significantly impact food security and agricultural productivity in Kenya. Through his leadership, Kimotho has not only heightened the nation’s agricultural output but has also inspired countless others to join this pivotal endeavor.

Commitment to Ethical Standards

The impact of Ephantus Kimotho extends beyond project management; his integrity shines through in every aspect of his work. In November 2024, he was honored by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) as one of only 36 CPA holders commended for their unwavering commitment to ethical standards and their notable contributions to both the accounting profession and public service.

This honor reflects not only his professional achievements but also his dedication to fostering an environment of accountability and transparency in public service—a critical component for earning the trust of the communities he serves.

A Humble Leader

Despite the numerous accolades and honors, Ephantus Kimotho remains grounded. In April 2024, he expressed his gratitude for being voted STARLEADER #3 in the Principal Secretaries category, reflecting on his outstanding work as PS for Irrigation.

“I am humbled,” he said. This humility underscores a fundamental truth about great leaders—they understand that their positions are not merely jobs but life-long responsibilities to elevate others.

A Call to Action

In an age where public service often faces scrutiny, Ephantus Kimotho stands as a beacon of hope. His journey is a rallying call for all of us to embrace integrity and become transformative leaders in our respective roles. The story of Ephantus Kimotho is not just about receiving awards; it is about inspiring a nation to dream bigger, to serve better, and to recognize that the essence of leadership is hidden in the heart of public service.

As we reflect on his accomplishments, let us also ask ourselves: How can we embody the same values in our daily lives? In doing so, we not only honor Ephantus Kimotho but also pave the way for a brighter, more prosperous future for Kenya—a future where integrity and service reign supreme.

Through the lens of Ephantus Kimotho’s exemplary leadership, we can see the power of dedication in action. It teaches us that when leaders illuminate the path of service with integrity and ethics, they inspire all of us to pursue greatness, both personally and en masse. Together, let's honor this legacy by committing to lift each other up in service to our communities.
