Kenya's Irrigation landscape at a glance under PS Kimotho.

  Irrigation Principal Secretary Ephantus Kimotho has been actively overseeing several key projects and initiatives aimed at transforming Kenya's irrigation landscape and boosting food security. Here are some of the notable activities and projects under his leadership from January 2024 to date: Signing MoU with Elgeyo-Marakwet County In March 2024, PS Kimotho signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the County Government of Elgeyo-Marakwet to develop water infrastructure in the county. The partnership involves drilling 17 boreholes and rehabilitating dams, which will increase water provision for domestic use and small-scale irrigation, enhancing food security and socio-economic well-being . In a momentous event on Monday at the Bomas of Kenya, Principal Secretary Ephantus Kimotho, CBS, of the State Department for Irrigation, took center stage to launch the National Irrigation Authority's Strategic Plan for 2023-2027.  The plan, a comprehensive roadmap, aims to revolutionize irrigation practices in Kenya, fostering sustainable development and food security. The strategic plan sets its sights on transforming Kenya into a food-secure and prosperous nation. By harnessing sustainable irrigation practices, it seeks to uplift communities and drive economic growth.  The plan draws inspiration from various policy documents, including the Kenya Vision 2030 (KV2030), the Fourth Medium-Term Plan (MTP IV), and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.  It aligns seamlessly with international frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the African Union Agenda 2063, and the East African Community Vision 2050.
